[Lib-helig-l] UCT Libraries vacancy - Section Manager: Special collections and archives

We invite applications from suitably qualified candidates for this permanent post in the Special Collections and Archives section of UCT Libraries.  This position provides strategic leadership and oversight for the staff and operations. The incumbent acts as the primary contact with donors, academic and community users and visitors, university staff and the broader library, heritage and cultural archival community in all matters relating to the acquisition, preservation and use of the specialized collections and archival holdings in the UCT Libraries.  
Requirements:

·         University Subject degree and a Postgraduate LIS qualification and/or a postgraduate Archival qualification
·         Proven leadership in the area of collection development with special reference to archival resources content and specialised materials
·         3 years management experience
·         Proven experience in drafting legal agreements with donors
·         6 years relevant experience in an academic or research library
·         High-level knowledge and understanding of archival and specialist African research collections and budgets
·         Knowledge and understanding of open scholarship trends
·         Knowledge & contextual understanding of emerging trends in digital archive resources, digital preservation and digital imaging technologies
·         Excellent communication and report writing skills.
·         Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills

A Master’s degree would be a recommendation.

Responsibilities:

·         Staff management of multiple specialist teams
·         Strategic leadership and management
·         Oversee and coordinate the development and management of special collections and archives
·         Selection and acquisition of   donated, acquired or accessed content
·         Facilities planning and management for optimum conditions and collection security
·         Oversee and coordinate processing, preservation and access to the special collections and archival holdings
·         Management of copyright and IP compliance requirements

The annual cost of employment, including benefits, is between R542 073 and R637 748.
