[Lib-helig-l] UCT Libraries vacancy - Deputy Director: Client Liaison Services (Ref: SR484/13)



The University of Cape Town Libraries invites applications for the position of Deputy Director: Client Liaison Services. The Libraries seek to attract an innovative and dynamic leader, who is able to advance the goals and priorities of the institution.

The successful candidate will be responsible for: • providing strategic leadership in delivering innovative and relevant user-centred information services to support research, teaching and learning • specialist teams including: Special Collections, five Faculty Liaison teams, Research Commons, Undergraduate Support Services and Access Servicesactively engaging and advancing scholarly communication librarianship • ensuring strategic plans are implemented • identifying and obtaining resources required to implement strategies • evaluating processes, workflows and direct services • overseeing expenditure of the annual operating budget for the Division. 

Requirements:
·         A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or a Master’s degree (or proven registration for a Master’s) in a subject discipline plus post-graduate Library and Information Science qualification
·         A minimum of 5 years’ relevant management experience in an academic or research library
·         Proven leadership and experience in the area of innovation, strategy development, planning and delivery in user services
·         Experience in and understanding of collection development and management
·         Proven capability in and understanding of information technology in a scholarly environment
·         Knowledge and understanding of open scholarship trends
·         Experience and understanding of different levels of information needs and variations among disciplines within an academic community
·         Proven experience in the following areas:
o    Human resource management and development
o    Service delivery in an academic or research library and the ability to work with academics, researchers and students
o    Financial management planning and budgets
o    Project management in an academic library environment
·         Excellent communication and report writing skills
·         Participation and engagement in continuing professional development activities.

Responsibilities:
·         Strategic leadership role and responsibilities in the Libraries and Division
·         Providing leadership within the Division to ensure the delivery of relevant services
·         Staff and resource  management  of the Client Liaison Services Division
·         Quality assurance and assessment of library services
·         Participation in and contribution to the library and information profession.

The annual cost of employment, including benefits, is negotiable.
