[Lib-helig-l] UCT Libraries' vacancy: Senior Library Assistant, Bibliographic Access

SENIOR LIBRARY ASSISTANT, BIBLIOGRAPHIC ACCESS SERVICES

 

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for this post in Bibliographic Access Services. The successful candidate will assist in maintaining and providing access to the print and digital library collections.

 

Requirements include:

 

·        A library qualification or university degree;

·        Demonstrated experience with integrated library systems;

·        Computer literacy, including MSWord and Excel;

·        Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team;

·        Proven accuracy and attention to detail;

·        A high level of literacy and numeracy;

·        Good communication and organizational skills.

 

Working knowledge of bibliographic databases, MARC21 coding, and previous experience working in an academic library would be considered recommendations.

 

This post involves evening and weekend work.

 

Responsibilities include:

 

·        Ensuring the accuracy of location and loan status of items in the online catalogue;

·        Searching bibliographic databases and downloading catalogue records;

·        Creating original catalogue records online;

·        Compiling departmental statistics.

 

The annual remuneration package, including benefits, is negotiable between R185 775 and R218 546.
