The Higher Education Libraries Interest Group (HELIG) – in support of the LIASA strategy and to help strengthen higher education and research support in South Africa – hosts a series of activities throughout the year. The purpose of these will be to introduce new trends which also impact on libraries and service delivery, and to stay abreast of new developments as far as it concerns higher education in our country. This is the second in the series of webinars planned for this year.
HELIG National in collaboration with Lisa Janicke Hinchliffe of the University Library at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, USA, invites you to participate in a webinar on Embedding Assessment into the Library's Practices.
As academic libraries are increasingly asked to demonstrate their value and the contributions they make to their institutions, library staff need efficient and effective strategies for assessment. Best practice in assessment means embedding assessment into the library's practices on a continuous basis rather than treating it as a separate and additional task. This webinar will present an integrated and systematic approach to developing and assessing library activities that includes identifying impact outcomes and aligned activities, establishing criteria, collecting and analyzing data and evidence, and using the results for improvement and telling the story of the library's impact.

About our presenter:-
Lisa Janicke Hinchliffe is Professor, University Library and Coordinator for Information Literacy Services and Instruction at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. A past-president of the Association of College and Research Libraries, ACRL launched the Value of Academic Libraries Initiative during her presidency. She has presented and published widely on the value of academic libraries and library assessment, evaluation, and innovation. With Debra Gilchrist, Lisa was also the lead designer for ACRL’s training program for the Standards for Libraries in Higher Education and is now serving as lead facilitator for ACRL's Assessment in Action program. One of her most recent publications is the co-edited book Environments for Students Growth and Development: Libraries and Student Affairs in Collaboration (2012).

How to join the webinar (Please test beforehand - it is already available.)
1. Go to http://tex.sun.ac.za
2. Type your name.
3. Click Join.
4. Click Allow.
5. Click Join Audio.
Understanding the screen layout
Users: Refers to the chair and presenters. You should be able to see the names of the presenters once they have logged in.
Listeners: Refers to the audience. You should see your name listed once logged in.
Video doc: Real-time image of presenters.
Chat: Area where you can type questions to the presenters. You can even select a colour for your questions.
Center of the screen: This is where the presenters will display and manage their presentation.
