[Lib-helig-l] Advert for academic position in LIS at UCT

We invite applications for the above 3-year contract post. The successful candidate will assume duty on 01 January 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter. Appointment will take place at the appropriate level in alignment with the Faculty of Humanities’ criteria for promotion. The successful applicant would be expected to assume primary responsibilities in courses involving information and communication technologies at both Postgraduate Diploma (LIS) and Master’s (LIS) degree levels. Teaching experience at these levels would therefore be a distinct advantage.

At Senior Lecturer level the requirements include:

<![if !supportLists]>·         <![endif]>A PhD in Library and Information Science (LIS) or related discipline
<![if !supportLists]>·         <![endif]>Experience in teaching/tutoring/instruction at the higher education level
<![if !supportLists]>·         <![endif]>A proven research track record, publications and postgraduate supervision in aspects of LIS or related areas
<![if !supportLists]>·         <![endif]>Evidence of understanding of current scholarly communication terrain

At Lecturer level the requirements include:

<![if !supportLists]>·         <![endif]>A Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (LIS) or related discipline
<![if !supportLists]>·         <![endif]>Experience in teaching/tutoring/instruction at the higher education level
<![if !supportLists]>·         <![endif]>Proven research and publication experience
<![if !supportLists]>·         <![endif]>Evidence of understanding of current scholarly communication terrain

At both levels, work experience in a library or information organising agency would be advantageous.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be expected to:
<![if !supportLists]>·         <![endif]>Provide direction in the design and delivery of courses relating to modern information technologies in libraries
<![if !supportLists]>·         <![endif]>Teach postgraduate students and, as appropriate, supervise postgraduate research
<![if !supportLists]>·         <![endif]>Undertake supervision/co-supervision of research projects at the postgraduate level
<![if !supportLists]>·         <![endif]>Undertake research relevant to LIS and publish in recognised LIS or related journals
<![if !supportLists]>·         <![endif]>Contribute to the administration of the Centre
