SENIOR LIBRARY ASSISTANT (CONTRACT)

 

We invite applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for appointment to this full-time six-month contract position commencing on 1 May 2012 (or as soon as possible thereafter).

 

The appointee will provide assistance and support to a busy Information Desk serving the needs of students and academics.

 

Responsibilities:

·        Assist with reference and information services

·        Assist with Collection maintenance duties

·        Provide administrative support

·        Supervision and training of student assistants

 

Requirements:

·        A librarianship qualification or a university degree

·        One year relevant work experience in an academic or special library

·        Excellent computer literacy

·        Ability to use library electronic resources

·        Good organisational and communication skills

·        Good interpersonal skills and customer service orientation

·        Flexibility and ability to work within a team as well as independently

·        Good numeracy skills

·        Attention to detail

 

This post involves evening and weekend work.

 

The annual remuneration is negotiable between R126 488 and R235 811, depending on qualifications and experience.

SECTION MANAGER: LAW LIBRARY

 

We invite applications from qualified candidates for this permanent post in UCT Libraries. The successful candidate will manage and lead the team in a busy branch library while ensuring provision of legal reference and research support services of a high standard to the staff and students of the Law Faculty. 

 

Requirements:

 

·        An LLB degree or a B degree with law subjects plus a university librarianship qualification;

·        5 -10 years experience in a law library with at least three years in an academic setting; 

·        Significant experience in a managerial role;

·        Experience in the use of legal databases, print and electronic;

·        Understanding of collections and other issues related to information services in research libraries;

·        Significant experience in working with users, including postgraduates and academics.

 

Responsibilities:

 

·        Coordinates and manages faculty information services, particularly in support of academics and postgraduates.

·        Takes responsibility for workforce planning for the Law Library

·        Liaison and collaboration with  the Law Faculty and its structures

·        Provides expertise as senior subject specialist for the Law Faculty.

·        Ensures overall quality and consistency of collection development and access to information resources

·        Coordinates training and instruction in the use of legal  information resources to both postgraduate and undergraduate students

 

Recommendations:

 

·        A Master's Degree in Law.

·        Awareness of international trends and benchmarks in support of specialist subject support.

This post involves evening and weekend work.

 

The annual cost of employment, including benefits, is negotiable between R371 316 and R436 833.
