Rosenberg Library offers free music downloads
Published February 22, 2012 GALVESTON — The Rosenberg Library is offering free access to songs from Sony Music's catalog of legendary artists through the library's website.
Rosenberg Library card holders with an active account can download up to three Sony Music tracks in MP3 format each week, free of charge.
This service, called Freegal, increases the size and diversity of the library's music collection by offering access to hundreds of thousands of songs.
To download, visit the Rosenberg Library's Digital Library page and click on the Freegal icon. To log in, card holders will be prompted for the 14-digit bar code on their library card.
Once songs are downloaded, card holders can transfer them to the device of their choice, whether a CD, portable MP3 player or mobile device.
"We have been waiting a long time for a service like this that delivers great music, compatibility with lots of devices and simplicity of use," Adult Services Manager Maurine Sweeney said. "We think this will be incredibly popular with our patrons."
There is no software to download. The service works through the computer's Internet browser.
There is a FAQ page on the Freegal site with details about transferring music to different devices, as well as other general and technical information.
For help accessing your free downloads, contact the reference desk at 409-763-8854, Ext. 115 or email reference(at)rosenberg-library.org.
